Bespoke Bar Design

Bespoke Bar Design and Home Entertainment Room – Fun in Designing

From time to time we are given a project where everybody in the office jumps at the chance to work on the designs. During a recent project we worked on a home entertainment room with a pool table, lounge seating areas, cinema stage area and a fully working bar area.

Design Process

Initially there was a series of client meetings to determine a clear brief and design direction. During this time we created a series of mood boards along with initial sample considerations.

Once the concept direction was met with approval we then started to work on concept designs using sketch-up, combined with sketch proposals for swift feedback from client. As a practice we tend to use sketch-up more and more as a design aid as we are able to see critical junctions and details in 3D format, which may not be considered in sketches. We can then resolve any potential issues before they are implemented on site.

On approval of concept designs we then move into the technical drawing phase. In regards to the bar area the drawings were very intricate as we had to incorporate all the required appliances, cross reference setting out details with the electrical requirements for wall mounted TV’s, consider design in relation to cornice and ceiling details, incorporate the sliding entrance door into the design amongst other elements.

Once drawings were submitted to the Building Contractor we worked closely with the team on site to determine accurate setting out for all stud-work and related first fix elements. In addition we liaised at regular intervals with the carpenters to run through all cabinetry details.

Image above shows the fitted joinery being installed on site, prior to any secondary specialist finishes applied, such as counter-tops, fascia panels and mirrors to back elevations.

The bar design featured specialist finishes and was fully bespoke. The front fascia of the bar featured a series of padded fabric wrapped panels, with diamond cushioning detail. The counter-tops and the foot-rail were manufactured in brass and bespoke profiles were designed underneath counter-top. The carcass featured a rich dark stained timber finish, combined with a series of antique mirror panels to the back elevation and to the face of the sliding door.

Once all the fitted joinery was installed we then aided the client in selecting light fittings, bar stools and all other related FF & E to compliment the room. The design of the bar area sat perfectly within the overall aesthetic of the entertainment area and both the client and ourselves were extremely pleased with the finished look.
